• Drafts near ceiling fixtures in the winter. When foam pulls away from can light housings or ceiling boxes, conditioned air leaks into the attic. You’ll feel it most in rooms directly under the attic, especially on cold mornings.
• Dust or fiberglass particles drifting down from the attic hatch. A failed air seal lets attic dust migrate into the living space. If the hatch trim is dusty on the inside edge, the seal has gaps.

DIY or Call Us?

Spray foam air sealing is not a weekend DIY project, and with Icynene specifically, there’s a real temptation to grab a can of hardware store foam and fill the gaps. Here’s the problem: one-part foam from a can doesn’t have the same expansion rate or density as Icynene, and it won’t bond properly to the existing foam. You’ll create the appearance of a seal that fails within a year.

What you can safely do is identify the problem: check your attic hatch for gaps, look for daylight around vent pipes, and note any areas where foam has visibly pulled away from framing. But the actual repair work involves working in tight, hot attic spaces with expanding foam products that require proper ventilation and PPE. One wrong application around electrical boxes creates a fire hazard. This is work for a trained crew.
