• Batts are pulled back or missing around attic penetrations. Recessed light cans, bathroom fans, and junction boxes all require the insulation pulled back a few inches by code for fire clearance. When the electrician or cable installer moves it, it rarely gets put back. Those gaps become thermal holes that show up as hot spots on the ceiling.
